The founders of Breckland Technology Ltd (BTL) have long recognised the need for a manufacturing facility to build specialist cars in low volumes. It was acknowledged whilst such a resource should provide the production environment; it should also be able to assist in the engineering and technical development of client’s products.
The opportunity to establish such a facility arose through contact with an overseas client, during early 2000. Following a request and encouragement from UK DTI agency Trade Partners UK the founders formalised the business in the summer of 2000.
In the autumn of 2000, BTL occupied its modern 10,500sq ft facility on the Rash’s Green Industrial Estate, Dereham, Norfolk, UK. This location was chosen as it was centrally placed for the intended labour force and was also in an area where there are a lot of small sub contract businesses that have a wealth of experience in the field of automotive engineering. It was also taken into consideration that the available building had good access and a floor area that suited the company’s requirements. The factory is divided into two separate buildings, both with vehicle access, one part is allocated to BTL production whilst the second part is used for parts storage.
The long-term goal for Breckland Technology is to establish a robust, high quality, low volume, manufacturing facility in the UK with worldwide clients. This has so far been achieved with clients in Japan, UK and the USA.
